The purpose of Pamukkale Medical Journal is to help achieve the goals that support studies that convey the latest developments in the field of science, improve practice, contribute to knowledge sharing, and ensure the continuation of education and research by publishing clinical and experimental research, review articles, case reports and letters to the editor in the field of health.

The scope of Pamukkale Medical Journal is to publish the articles submitted in the fields of medicine and health nationwide 4 times a year.
The target audience of Pamukkale Medical Journal is health sciences academics, specialist physicians, assistants, and medical students.

            Pamukkale Medical Journal (Pam Med J) is an open-access free medical journal

          Pamukkale Medical Journal publishes clinical and experimental studies in the field of medicine, interesting case reports, invited reviews, and letters to the Editor. The journal is published   quarterly (January, April, July, October) with four issues per year. Publication language is English.

         The responsibility for the approval of the ethics committee of the studies submitted to the journal belongs to the authors. However, the Editor reserves the right to request an ethics committee   document from the authors when necessary. If all or part of the uploaded text has been previously published elsewhere, this should be reported to the editor.
    Corresponding author is responsible for all correspondence, changes on the article (including the number and order of the author) and correction of accepted articles.

    It is expected that researches, articles and journals within the scope of TR Index Criteria and required permissions with the approval of the Ethics Committee will comply with the relevant legislation. In this context, "TR Index Ethical Principles Flow Chart" is published on the TR Index page under the Guideline title to assist researchers.

    Plagiarism (Similarity Report) Report
    All articles should be scanned with a software such as iThenticate© before they are sent to our Journal and these screening reports should be submitted with the article. The similarity rate for the entire article should be less than 20% and the similarity rate for a reference should be less than 3%. However, careful examination of the similarities above 1% will be in the interest of the author(s). The Editorial Board of our journal has the right to reject all articles with academic plagiarism at the editorial stage. Although our journal does not accept any responsibility for plagiarism problems that may occur regarding the scientific article during and after the evaluation and publication process, it is important to announce that the legal and ethical responsibility in this matter will belong only to the authors.


    Spelling rules for tables
    All tables must be cited in the text.
    Tables must be loaded in the Word file according to the rules.
    It should not be forgotten that graphs, diagrams and algorithms are figures, not tables.
    Abbreviations in the tables should be explained below the table.
    The following rules must be followed in tables and in the main text;
    1- The space will be closed with “±” numbers Example: 10.7±4.8
    2- Abbreviations such as >, ng/mL, °C should not contain spaces.
    3- The numbers must be written without a space behind it. Example: 42.6%
    4- Decimal numbers must be used without spaces. Example: 0.50
    5- Table titles should be bold
    6- All tables should have numbers and titles on them.
    7- Do not use a “dot” after the title of the tables.

    Spelling rules for pictures and figures
    • All pictures must be cited in the text.
    • Images of any institution or patient should not have information on it. Eyes should be closed to protect privacy in face photos.
    • Images must be with a resolution of at least 300 vpi, 1280x960 pixels and saved in jpg or tiff formats.
    • Each picture, figure or graphic should be prepared as a separate document and uploaded as appendices to the text. It should not be placed in the main text
    • If signs as arrow etc. are used on the picture, this should be stated in the picture description.
    • Picture description: The parts that want to attract attention in the pictures must be marked with thin, black or white color (Arrows should be thin, white or black depending on their location). Please write a detailed description in the description section of the pictures. If some pictures show improvement after treatment, please add information in the form of radiography, scintigraphy, etc. findings that have improved after treatment as a caption.
    Picture and Figure titles should be bold.

    • In order for the articles to pass the pre-check without rejection, the article template must be used. In order for your studies to be evaluated, the entire study must be prepared using the Pamukkale Medical Journal Article Template. The template file you will download will facilitate the preparation of the articles in accordance with the spelling rules of our journal.
    • When uploading the article to the DergiPark System, fill in both the Turkish and English tabs of the TITLE - SHORT TITLE - SUMMARY - KEY WORDS sections.

    • The study must comply with the grammar rules. Valid scientific methods should be followed in the preparation of the article, the subject, purpose, scope of the study, the reason for its preparation, etc. information should be given in sufficient quantity and in a certain order. Articles that do not comply with the spelling rules will be rejected.
    • According to TR Index criteria, publications related to authors who do not have ORCID Information will not be accepted.

    IMPORTANT REMINDER TO THE AUTHORS
    Below are the points we ask our referees to pay attention to. It would be beneficial for the authors to double-check their articles before submitting them on the system, taking these into account.
    • The Turkish and English titles of the article should be appropriate
    • Summary; Does it cover the purpose of the study, the findings and recommendations obtained according to the method applied?
    • Are the Turkish and English keywords appropriate, parallel and sufficient?
    • Are the references used in the article sufficient, current and relevant to the subject of the study?
    • Is every reference used in the article included in the Refences part?
    • Is any reference not used in the article included in the Refences part?
    • Is the subject and purpose of the study sufficiently emphasized in the introduction?
    • Are the research methods appropriate for the study subject?
    • Are the figures and tables arranged in an appropriate and understandable way according to the research data?
    • Have the research results been adequately discussed?
    • Is the work presented in a coherent and complete manner in a fluent and understandable language?
    • Were grammatical rules followed in the study?
    • Does the study have original value in terms of its contribution to science?




PAMUKKALE MEDICAL JOURNAL PUBLISHING ETHICS AND PUBLISHING PRINCIPLES

It is aimed that all stakeholders (Author, editor, referee, and reader) who present a scientific study contribute to the correct progress of science. Conformity with scientific ethical principles is important in scientific studies prepared in accordance with this goal. The Conformity of the articles with the ethical rules is the responsibility of the authors.
These ethical principles have been accepted by us on the basis of the directive prepared by COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics), and some of them are presented below, with suggestions for adoption by stakeholders.

Ethical Responsibilities of Authors
To ensure the accuracy of the data related to the study, to keep the records of the research in order and to be able to access this data upon possible request.
To ensure that the submitted article has not been published elsewhere, has not been accepted for publication, or is still under review in another journal.
If the content it offers is published or the offered content matches, acknowledge and quote this conflict, if necessary provide the editor with a copy of any work related to her/his work that may have similar content, get permission to reproduce or use any content from other sources, refer to content. To send the written permission document obtained from the copyright holders for the visual materials that require copyright and to indicate this situation in the article. To give detailed information if all or part of the same study was presented as a poster or oral presentation in any congress.
To ensure compliance with national and international laws and guidelines for all studies involving human or animal subjects (for example, WMA Declaration of Helsinki, NIH Policy on the Use of Laboratory Animals, EU Directive on the Use of Animals), confirm that necessary approvals have been obtained, and respect subject privacy. To indicate the relevant ethics committee approvals and research details of the study in the "Materials and Methods" section of the study.
In case of any conflict of interest or ethical violation, to share it with the editor and publisher, to publish an error statement, addendum, compensation notice, or to withdraw the work when deemed necessary.

Ethical Duties and Responsibilities of Editors and Section Editors
To act in a balanced, objective and fair manner in the performance of their duties without discrimination on the basis of gender, religious or political beliefs, ethnic or geographical origin of the authors.
Evaluating the works submitted to the journal according to their content, not giving any privilege to any author.
Evaluate existing disclosures to avoid potential conflicts of interest.
Treating sponsored studies or studies on special subjects in the same way as other studies, In case of a complaint of violation of ethics, applying the necessary procedures by adhering to the policies and procedures of the journal. Giving the authors an opportunity to respond to the complaint, not avoiding the necessary sanctions no matter who the work belongs to.
To return the articles to the authors without evaluating them in terms of content, if they do not comply with the purpose, scope and spelling rules of the journal.

Ethical Responsibilities of Referees

Timely reviewing the article objectively to contribute to the editor's decision making and agreeing to evaluate work in the area of ​​interest first
To make the evaluation objectively only in relation to the content of the study. Evaluating work without considering religious, political and economic interests
To provide guidance to help improve the quality of the article to be published and to examine the study meticulously. To convey comments to the author in a constructive and kind language.
To protect the confidentiality of the information provided by the editor and the author, to destroy the study after the evaluation process in accordance with the confidentiality principle, to notify the editor if there is a situation contrary to blind refereeing and not to evaluate the study.
Be aware of potential conflicts of interest (financial, institutional, collaborative, or other relationships between author and author) and alert the editor to withdraw their suggestions and comments for this article if necessary.

Publisher's Ethical Responsibilities
The publisher, one of the stakeholders involved in a scientific study, should also act within the scope of all these ethical principles.
The publisher is obliged to use its communication power without any individual interest and to direct its target audience correctly.
It protects the property and copyright of every published work and undertakes the task of archiving every published product.

Some of the actions considered to be against scientific research and publication ethics:
Plagiarism: To present the original ideas, methods, data or works of others as one's own work, in whole or in part, without attribution in accordance with scientific rules,
Fraud: Using non-existent or falsified data in scientific research
Distortion: To falsify research records or obtained data, to present devices or materials that are not used in the research as if they were used, to falsify or shape the research results in line with the interests of the people and institutions that receive support,
Republishing: Presenting duplicate publications as separate publications for academic assignments and promotions,
Salamization: Presenting the results of a research as separate publications in academic assignments and promotions by dissecting the results of a research in a way that violates the integrity of the research and publishing it in more than one issue.
Unfair authorship: Including people who do not have active contributions among the authors or not including those who do, changing the order of authors unjustifiably and inappropriately, removing the names of those who contributed actively from the work in subsequent editions, using his/her influence to include his/her name among the authors, even though he/she has no active contribution,
Not specifying the supporting persons, institutions or organizations and their contributions in the publications made as a result of the research carried out with support,
Using thesis or studies that have not yet been presented or accepted by defending as a source without the permission of the owner,
Failure to comply with ethical rules in research on humans and animals, not respecting the rights of patients in their publications, harming animal health and ecological balance, not obtaining necessary permissions,
To misuse the resources, places, facilities and devices provided or allocated for scientific research,
Making false or misleading statements regarding scientific research and publications in academic assignments and promotions.

PAMUKKALE MEDICAL JOURNAL PUBLISHING POLICY

The term of office of the Editor-in-Chief, Editorial Board and Field Editors of Pamukkale Medical Journal is three years. The Editorial Board meets at least once a month or more frequently, when necessary, upon the invitation of the Editor-in-Chief and discusses the agenda items. The meeting takes place when a majority is achieved.
The preliminary evaluation of the reference articles is reviewed by the journal's secretariat in terms of compliance with the writing rules of our journal and is sent back to the author for corrections. The maximum period granted to the author is 1 (one) month. Articles submitted to our journal are read once by the Editor-in-Chief/Assistant Editor and directed to the relevant Field Editor. If the Field Editor finds the article suitable for evaluation, it directs it to the referees., The pre-evaluation phase is planned by the editor as 10 days and the referee evaluation process as 8 weeks. The next process; The article is evaluated in the form of correspondence between the Field Editor, the Referees and the Author, but the final decision for the article is determined within a maximum of 2 (two) months after the reviewers' opinions and the necessary correspondence are completed.
Articles submitted in accordance with the publication rules are sent to two referees who are experts in their fields for evaluation by the relevant Field Editor. However, due to the lack of timely return due to undesirable reasons from the referees, re-appointment of referees etc. The referee evaluation process may take a long time for reasons. In this regard, we kindly ask the authors to send their articles by considering the time period. Two referees evaluate the article sent to them and report the result back to the relevant Field Editor. The Editorial Board has to get results from at least two referees within 2 (two) months in order to make the final decision about the article. If one of the two referees evaluating the article gives a positive report and the other gives a negative report, the article is sent to the third referee and the final decision is made according to the positive or negative opinion of the third referee. If the corrections requested by the referee are not answered within 2 (two) months, the articles will be 'Rejected'.
Our Field Editors show the necessary sensitivity to complete all the processes of the article within 4-6 months at the latest. Incomplete and erroneous works that do not comply with the journal policy and publication rules are rejected without any effect. Author(s) who submit an article to Pamukkale Medical Journal are deemed to have accepted the referee evaluation conditions and process of the journal. In the studies submitted to Pamukkale Medical Journal, the authors have to take into account the criticisms and suggestions of the referees and the field editor. If there are issues that they do not agree with, they have the right to object together with their reasons. The final decision of the article; It is forwarded to the author by the Editor-in-Chief/Assistant Editor-in-Chief on behalf of the Editorial Board. Therefore, the decision letter does not belong to the Editor-in-Chief/Assistant Editor-in-Chief. It should be known that the decision whether to publish an article under any circumstances is made by the Editorial Board, and this decision made in scientific evaluation can not be criticized by a different higher committee.

Pamukkale Medical Journal does not charge any fee for article submission or article publication process.
